I had a 14 days private trip under the professional guidance of Karanta in April 2024 through Gambia and parts of Senegal. I can only highly recommend this to anyone deeply interested in birds. The trip covered all relevant habitats and i believe you can hardly be better than Karanta in spotting bird which I would have passed unnoticed or tracking down special species that I would like to see. I took reasonable to very good shots of more than 100 species😀 All accommodations were well chosen and comfortable. And the tour or the activitiy schedule could always be adapted to my wishes. I have known Karanta for nearly a decade and regard him as the finest bird guide in The Gambia. Not only is he a skilled field ornithologist but he is also able to adapt to the specific needs of a particular client. As a bird photographer (and on occasions a demanding one) I have found his understanding of factors such as lighting, settings and backgrounds invaluable when it comes to capturing images. Very professional and experienced guide, with great knowledge of not only finding and ID-ing birds, but also how to observe and photograph them the best way possible. Karanta is one of the most experienced guides in the Gambia, has many years of experience in Senegal as well, and is a very nice and honest man. My trip with him was a pleasure, highly recommended.
